John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
We are told that darkness is simply the absence of light. God’s word has much to say about light, but the “bottom-line” is that Jesus IS the Light of the world. Not only is He the Light of the world, but He will be the Light of New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:23).
The Psalmist said, “Thy word is a lamp, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). John 12:46 says, “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.” John 3:19 states, “…men loved darkness than light, because their deeds were evil.”
Usually we think of dastardly, evil deeds done in darkness of night. People don’t like the illuminating light of conviction upon them as they choose to do those things that should not be done.
That’s where the verse, John 8:12, comes into clear perspective. If we are truly walking in the light we won’t choose to do deeds that necessitates the cover of darkness.
