Dominion of Darkness

From Pastor’s Desk:

Colossians 1:13-14 …he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Rather interesting that the Bible refers to us as being in this world but not of this world and yet this verse says “…He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness…” The key word, in my opinion, is “dominion.” Anyone reading this can attest to the fact that we are often, and even frequently, called upon to walk through times of “darkness.” However, those times no longer have dominion over us.

Easier said than done? Absolutely! But the word “rescued” lends to the principle that God not only brought us out from under the dominion of darkness, but further, has brought into the Kingdom of Christ Jesus. Through Him we don’t live there anymore!

Last night, in our first of three nights of revival with Candis Oswalt, we heard a good message on “Trust God.” The essence is that there are going to be temptations, trials, adversity, etc., maybe even to the point of walking through the “fire,” but God will always be with us IN them, if He does not deliver us FROM them.

I cannot speak for you but I have found that God usually walks with me IN mine, simply because there is always a lesson for me to learn that I would not have learned had He delivered FROM the situation.

Maybe this verse will encourage someone today. Someone who is smack dab in the middle of a trial, trying to overcome temptation, or facing the onslaught of the enemy in an adverse situation. If your trust is in Christ Jesus, if you’re living your life in Christ as best you can, and endeavoring with all your heart to walk in the Spirit, “darkness” has no dominion over you!
