From Pastor’s Desk:
Hebrews 12:2 …fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (NIV).
“Looking unto Jesus” is the KJV which is, ἀφοράω aphoraō (af-or-ah’-o); to consider attentively: – look.
Allow me to submit it from the Amplified Bible: [looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work].
However we process it, “looking unto”, “fixing our eyes on”, or “focusing our eyes on Jesus”, we won’t be so apt to look unto, fix our eyes on, or focus our eyes on other people and/or things.
