From Pastor’s Desk:
Psalm 5:12 Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
This verse brings into sharper perspective Numbers 6:25: “The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee.” AMP renders it “The Lord make His face shine upon you [with favor], And be gracious to you [surrounding you with loving-kindness].”
The key word of Psalm 5:12, however, is “righteous” because only in the state of righteousness can we receive God’s blessings. Only then can He turn his face toward us. And because God cannot look upon sin, sin negates the receiving of blessings, as He cannot turn His face (show favor) if and while we yielding to sin.
What a tremendous blessing it is to know that we are surrounded by God’s favor. That is, His face is turned toward us the moment we call upon Him. He is the God that hears. Job 34:28 declares “So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.” Psalm 34:17 says, “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
When we cannot sense God’s face turning toward us, maybe those are the times when we need to re-evaluate our righteousness.
