Joy in God’s Heart

From Pastor’s Desk:

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Philippians 2:1-2 NIV

***

Like-minded, same love, one in spirit, one mind: It doesn’t get any better than that. What a vast difference the church could make in the world if we would stand together in all of these aspects of serving God, our community, our brothers and sisters in the Lord. Looking to history, isn’t this what God has always desired of His people?

All of these also bring complete unity and harmony. Psalm 133 declares “how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, coming down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard, coming down upon the edge of his robes. It is like the dew of Hermon coming down upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing—life forever.

How peace prevails when unity is prevalent! What peace there is when there are those gathered who are like-minded! Pervading the heart, mind, and spirit is the peace that comes among those who have the same love! Being one in spirit and of one mind gives the Holy Spirit ready access that He may guide us into arenas in which unsolicited praise and worship will exude and permeate the surrounding atmosphere.

Let us make the joy in God’s heart complete by endeavoring to be like-minded, have the same love, and be in one spirit and one mind.
