Who We Are in God

From Pastor’s Desk:

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; – 1 Peter 2:9 NASB

***

Don’t miss the point that as this verse tells us who we are it also why, and that is, to witness of Him.

Pews (these days mostly chairs) are filled regularly with people who love to portray who they are in church. But we all know that some people are much different outside church.

If one is chosen by someone, that person will, at some point, show by whom they have been chosen. Royalty is recognized at once. Holy is not just a moniker, but rather it’s a life lived. And, God’s own possession? Just to think that the God of the universe calls us (those who have accepted Christ as Savior) His own prized possession.

We are all of the above because we have called, by Him, out of the darkness of sin to live in the marvelous light of His love, mercy, compassion, and grace.

Does this mean that we, as Christians, live free from the cares of this life? No, it rains on the just as well as the unjust (Matthew 5:45). It does mean, however, that as all the above, we have access to our Heavenly Father anytime, anywhere, and in any and every situation.

We must not miss the point stated at the beginning, that we “may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called” us from darkness into His light. If, indeed, you are one of the chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, then shout if from the mountain tops that Jesus Christ is Lord!Sunset over Mountain Range
