From Pastor’s Desk:
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; – 1 Peter 3:15 NKJV
We Christians have a tendency to go about looking like we’ve just been baptized in pickle juice. Do we really think that would entice anyone to want what we have? We look there’s no hope, so why should they buy into what we have (or don’t have)?
A person with hope is a different person, or should be. We are they who will someday know God even as we are known (1 Cor. 13.12). We have a confidence that supersedes all others (Heb. 3:14). Tested and tried, “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed”… (2 Cor. 4:8-9).
Always be ready to give a defense. Hopefully we will look pleasant enough that people will look to us for the answer pertaining to the reason of hope that is just naturally inherent within a Christian (or should be).
Somebody said one time, “When you see someone without a smile, give them one.” I wonder how that would work if everyone adopted that mind-set? If the world doesn’t see a smile they won’t want what we have!
