Crouching at Your Door

From Pastor’s Desk:

Genesis 4:7 …If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.”

***

Such a simple message. Such a timeless truth. No pretense, no “beating around the bush.” Just do it and reap the benefits, don’t do it and reap the consequences.

Again, as often shown in Scripture, the responsibility is placed on the individual; “…YOU must master it.” How wonderful it is when God delivers, by miraculous means, from habits, etc. But there are some times when God doesn’t think it advantageous to our spiritual welfare to give us the “easy way” out. His plans (thoughts) for us include advancing our walk of faith.

Advancing faith is done only by self-discipline. Miraculous deliverance is amazing, but most times we get our eyes on the miracle and miss the whole point. But doing what is right every day necessitates a self-discipline that comes only as we accept the responsibility of living righteously and striving for holiness. ”

You’ll never master it otherwise! Sin, not mastered, will master you!
