1 John 5:13-14 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
Four key words: Believe, Know, Confidence, and Hear.
Believing is set as the criterion for receiving in Matthew 21:22 when Jesus said “…all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”
Confidence comes from knowing that we have eternal life through believing in the Son of God, Jesus Christ, which lends to the fact that we can boldly approach the throne of grace(Heb. 4:16) and ask for anything, in accordance with His will.
Substantiating the principle that God hears us is Psalm 34:17, which says “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.” Further, the Psalmist declares in 69:33 “…the LORD heareth the poor…”
We have only to look at the history of God’s people, Israel, to find significant instances where God heard their cries.
Often I have reiterated that all things that God did for His people physically He now does for His people spiritually. If He heard their cries from Egyptian bondage, will he not hear our cry from our point of bondage? If He took them into Babylonian captivity, with a distinct plan for them, and with promise to bring them back from whence He took them after a definite, specific time, will He not do the same for us?
Indeed, if we believe, know, and have confidence in Christ Jesus, the Son of God, we can ask anything, according to God’s will, and He will hear us.
But, within the principle that He hears is the assumption that we have called!
