From Pastor’s Desk:
He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4 NKJV
No matter what life throws at you, what your adversary, the devil, schemes against you with, or if you are wrestling with self-inflicted trials, you can stand on the word of God. There is nothing else that will suffice for knowing how to live righteously, having the strength to, how to avoid the pitfalls of unrighteousness, and persevering the pressures of all the “stuff” of this world.
The great example of Christ Jesus in His “Wilderness Temptation” gives us the blueprint of resistance against the temptation of the devil. The first temptation Jesus answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” To the second He answered, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’” The third and final temptation (for now) He says, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”
Hebrews 4:15 says, “…we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Jesus was tempted in all, or, “in all points.” It is my opinion that specific sin(s) fall under three main categories of sin: Pride of Life, Lust of the Flesh, and the Lust of the Eye.
Jesus was tempted in all three main categories. To resists the temptation(s), He used the word of God. Should we do any less?
