Press Toward

From Pastor’s Desk:

I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 3:14 NKJV

In order for this verse to be of full impact the previous verse must be factored in: “I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind…”

One cannot, effectively, “press toward” without first letting go of the past. Considering Paul’s life, and all that is involved in “those things behind” means that he purposely, and with determination, released all of what he had done, as well as who he was, to pursue the cause of Christ Jesus, for the sake of the gospel.

Too many people hold on to the past, living in entrapment that hinders them from “pressing toward.” And, sadly, if they don’t themselves live there, there are others always ready to try to keep them there.

Point? Let go of the past and press toward! Further, don’t allow others to keep you there!
